Vietnam’s legislative body, the 16th National Assembly, is scheduled to convene its inaugural extraordinary session from August 3 to August 24 in the capital city of Hanoi. During this period, lawmakers will engage in discussions on a comprehensive legislative agenda and evaluate several significant national projects.
Among the 33 items on the agenda, the assembly aims to pass 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, members will conduct the first readings of seven more bills and debate seven crucial national issues. The proposed legislation spans various sectors, including petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense.
In addition to legislative work, the session will include a review of major infrastructure and development initiatives. Notable projects under consideration are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 and adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. The assembly will also deliberate on the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project and the prospective establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities.
Furthermore, lawmakers will examine special policy mechanisms focused on renewable energy, preparations for the APEC 2027 projects, and the country’s digital transformation efforts. These discussions are expected to shape Vietnam’s strategic direction in these critical areas.
