Thailand, Cambodia Plan Economic Initiatives to Rebuild Bilateral Business Trust

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand participated in trilateral discussions with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Shangri-La Mactan hotel in Cebu, Philippines. Convened at 6 pm local time, the talks focused on the ongoing situation between Thailand and Cambodia. As the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Philippines initiated this meeting, according to Rachada Dhanadirek, the spokesperson for Thailand’s Prime Minister’s Office.

Following the discussions, the three leaders addressed the media. President Marcos of the Philippines, in his role as ASEAN chair, spoke first, followed by Prime Minister Manet of Cambodia, and finally Prime Minister Anutin of Thailand. Anutin expressed gratitude towards President Marcos for organizing this crucial dialogue. He described his conversation with Hun Manet as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing that the talks were candid and significant.

The gathering provided a vital platform for reaffirming both nations’ dedication to maintaining peace and fostering dialogue, as highlighted by Anutin. He pointed out the importance of such discussions in solidifying bilateral relationships and promoting regional stability.

Prime Minister Anutin underscored the deep connections between Thailand and Cambodia, noting that they are neighboring countries with intertwined interests across various domains. He stressed that conflicts result in mutual losses and hardships, enhancing the necessity of peaceful coexistence.

Looking ahead, Anutin called for a renewed chapter in Thai-Cambodian relations, urging both nations to approach future challenges with sincerity, good faith, and a collective resolve to overcome obstacles together.
