Vietnam and Azerbaijan are set to enhance their strategic partnership, as affirmed during a high-level meeting between Vietnamese General Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and President To Lam, and Azerbaijani presidential envoy Elchin Amirbayov in Hanoi. The discussions underscored the historical ties and mutual support between the two nations, with To Lam emphasizing Azerbaijan’s significant backing during Vietnam’s fight for independence and its national development journey.
During the talks, To Lam highlighted the elevation of Vietnam-Azerbaijan relations to a Strategic Partnership, achieved during his state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025, as a pivotal milestone. He advocated for deeper political trust and the effective implementation of existing agreements, aiming for practical cooperation that benefits both countries. Amirbayov commended Vietnam’s remarkable development and international stature, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s dedication to nurturing the long-standing friendship forged by previous national leaders.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to increase high-level exchanges, enhance bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and involve government agencies, businesses, and local authorities more actively. Key areas identified for expanded collaboration include trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, logistics, science and technology, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Additionally, the two leaders discussed bolstering coordination and mutual support in international organizations and multilateral forums, such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement. Their shared vision aims to promote global peace, stability, and cooperation. Amirbayov also conveyed greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to To Lam, who in turn extended an invitation for President Aliyev and his spouse to visit Vietnam.
