Vietnam and Singapore are actively working to build stronger political trust and enhance strategic coordination as they look to bolster cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, and sustainable development. As Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for his state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted the evolution of bilateral relations, which have moved beyond traditional economic connections to concentrate on future-oriented sectors that promote long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
The two nations elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, a reflection of their growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore has retained its status as one of Vietnam’s foremost economic allies and stands as its second-largest foreign investor, with numerous active projects across diverse sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.
A key emblem of this collaboration is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network. This initiative is progressively aligning with sustainable development goals by expanding towards greener and smarter industrial models. Moreover, both countries are intensifying cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to interlink innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations.
Economic collaboration is anticipated to remain a central focus during Tô Lâm’s visit, alongside enhanced partnerships in finance, trade, supply chains, and technological advancement. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are expected to forge stronger links between governments, universities, research institutions, and private companies in areas encompassing artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also anticipated to propel the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Vietnam.
During his visit, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of the region’s premier security forums. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as acknowledgment of Vietnam’s expanding international role and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
