Vietnam has underscored its burgeoning influence in enhancing collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, as demonstrated at the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit celebrating 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s pivotal role in ensuring the summit’s success, emphasizing its efforts in promoting ASEAN’s central position and bolstering the strategic partnership between the bloc and Russia.
During the summit, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation prioritized dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. Vietnam advocated for expanding partnerships in vital sectors such as energy, trade, transportation connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. These efforts culminated in the adoption of new frameworks aimed at enhancing ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with a particular focus on energy as a cornerstone of this partnership.
In a move signaling its ongoing commitment to regional collaboration, Vietnam announced it would host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative aims to nurture future cooperation across the region. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders reiterated their dedication to strengthening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions covered potential expansions in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transportation.
Vietnam expressed that the summit’s outcomes are expected to reinforce ASEAN–Russia relations, enhance regional stability, and open new avenues for economic growth and collaboration across the Eurasian landscape. The solidification of these ties is seen as a crucial step toward fostering a more interconnected and prosperous region, with Vietnam positioning itself as a key player in facilitating these developments.
