Vietnam Focuses on Boosting Economic Ties in ASEAN–Russia Partnership.

Vietnam is reinforcing its pivotal role in enhancing cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s significant contributions to the summit, highlighting efforts to boost ASEAN’s central position and deepen the strategic partnership with Russia.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, Vietnam’s delegation focused on fostering dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. The nation proposed expanded collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. These sectors are seen as key to strengthening the ASEAN–Russia partnership through frameworks established at the summit, which aim to enhance cooperation until 2030, particularly emphasizing energy as a cornerstone of the relationship.

During the summit, Vietnam also announced its plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing future regional collaboration. This initiative is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to support sustained engagement between ASEAN and Russia, reflecting its dedication to fostering long-term partnerships in the region.

On the sidelines, Prime Minister Hưng met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to advancing the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in fields such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport, showcasing the multifaceted nature of their bilateral relations.

Vietnam asserts that the summit’s outcomes will not only bolster ASEAN–Russia relations but also enhance regional stability. The strengthened ties are expected to create new opportunities for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia, positioning ASEAN and Russia to address future challenges effectively and collaboratively.
