In a recent diplomatic meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in several critical areas. The dialogue focused on the potential to strengthen ties in trade, investment, and various sectors such as the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, and science and technology.
Vietnam took the opportunity to urge Lithuania to back the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by EU member states that have yet to do so. Additionally, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s support in advocating for the lifting of the European Commission’s “yellow card” status on Vietnamese seafood exports, a measure that has implications for trade relationships.
Expressing a commitment to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations, Lithuania announced its intention to send a business delegation to Vietnam. This move is seen as a step towards exploring and potentially expanding investment opportunities within the Southeast Asian nation, further solidifying economic ties between the two countries.
Moreover, both nations agreed to enhance their cooperative efforts on a global scale by coordinating more closely at the United Nations. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening ASEAN-EU relations, expressing mutual support for peace, stability, and the freedom of navigation in accordance with international law.
