Vietnam and Canada have taken a significant step in advancing their bilateral relations by adopting an Action Plan to implement their Strategic Partnership. This plan, agreed upon by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during discussions in Ottawa, aims to convert the commitments made by the two countries’ leaders into tangible programs and projects.

The Action Plan outlines various sectors for enhanced cooperation, covering political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transportation, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. This comprehensive plan reflects the breadth and depth of the potential collaboration between Vietnam and Canada.

To ensure the effective implementation of the Action Plan, the ministers emphasized the need for regular reviews and updates. They also called for stronger coordination between government agencies, local authorities, and businesses. This strategic approach is expected to facilitate the smooth execution of the planned initiatives and strengthen the partnership between the two nations.

Additionally, the two countries have agreed to bolster existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks that are strategically important. During their talks, the ministers also addressed regional and international issues, committing to enhance cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.

In a show of mutual support, Vietnam and Canada have pledged to assist each other in hosting the APEC meetings scheduled for 2027 and 2029. Furthermore, Vietnam has expressed its backing for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028. These commitments underscore the cooperative spirit and shared goals that define the relationship between the two countries.
