In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam and the World Bank have reiterated their dedication to enhancing collaboration on critical issues such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This discussion took place between Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and senior officials from the World Bank, underscoring the ongoing partnership between the Vietnamese government and the international financial institution.
The Vietnamese government acknowledged the significant role the World Bank has played in supporting various sectors within the country, including infrastructure, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainable development initiatives. World Bank-supported projects have contributed significantly to advancing water resource management, improving food security, and bolstering climate adaptation efforts across Vietnam, according to officials.
Deputy Prime Minister Dũng emphasized the importance of water security as a strategic priority for Vietnam, especially in light of the increasing challenges posed by climate change, notably in the Mekong Delta region. He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and indicated a strong interest in expanding long-term cooperation focused on water management and climate resilience.
The World Bank assured its ongoing commitment to assist Vietnam through a combination of financial support, technical assistance, policy guidance, and international expertise. Bank officials highlighted that water security and climate adaptation will be central elements in the forthcoming partnership framework with Vietnam, reflecting the bank’s strategic priorities in the region.
Both parties also explored ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. The discussions particularly emphasized the acceleration of projects that aim to support vulnerable communities while promoting long-term environmental sustainability in Vietnam.
