In a decisive move to tackle the issue of counterfeit goods, Thai authorities are set to destroy over 2 million items involved in intellectual property infringement cases. This effort marks a significant increase in the scope of their operations, with the number of seized items rising by 36.45% from the 1.52 million recorded in 2025. The estimated value of these goods has surged to THB2.14 billion, up from THB900.91 million the previous year, underscoring the scale of the counterfeit problem.

The array of items to be destroyed spans various categories, including clothing, watches, bags, and electronic equipment, as well as vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, and food and beverages. These products were confiscated during enforcement activities conducted across both online and offline markets, reflecting a comprehensive approach to curbing counterfeit sales.

Destruction of these counterfeit goods is being carried out at environmentally managed facilities located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This ensures that the disposal process is conducted safely, minimizing any potential impact on the surrounding community and environment.

Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List according to the 2026 Special 301 Report, which assesses the state of intellectual property protection and enforcement worldwide. In response, Thai authorities are actively pursuing an intellectual property work plan in collaboration with the United States, aiming to bolster enforcement measures, reduce the prevalence of counterfeit goods, protect consumers, and foster a more transparent business environment.
