The necessity for cross-border security cooperation has become increasingly crucial in Southeast Asia, where shared borders often serve as conduits for various illicit activities. Recognizing this, police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces have pledged to enhance their collaborative efforts in maintaining security and public order along their mutual border.

During a recent conference held in Tây Ninh, officials from the four provinces reviewed their ongoing cooperative measures and explored new strategies to bolster their fight against cross-border crime. The discussions underscored the importance of maintaining robust information exchanges and coordinated operations, particularly against drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud.

Key to their strategy is the facilitation of direct communication and the institution of regular meetings, which are essential for the swift exchange of information and effective case management involving transnational crimes. By improving these communication channels, the provinces aim to respond more rapidly to emerging security threats.

In addition to enhancing communication, the provinces agreed to intensify patrols and monitoring of border trails and crossings. This step aims to prevent illegal entries and exits that could potentially aid organized crime syndicates. The collaboration also extends to addressing more complex challenges such as terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime, reflecting the evolving nature of security threats along the border regions.

The conference culminated in the signing of a cooperation memorandum, solidifying their commitment to joint crime prevention initiatives and the maintenance of public order in these border areas. This agreement marks a significant step forward in the regional efforts to combat cross-border crime and ensure the safety and security of the communities residing in these provinces.
