In a bid to fortify ties between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ led a delegation to the provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit was aimed at enhancing collaboration between Vietnamese localities and these Cambodian regions, as well as assessing the activities of Vietnamese businesses and the conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community living there.
During discussions with local Cambodian leaders, a wide range of topics were covered, including trade expansion, agriculture, infrastructure development, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials expressed appreciation for the growing connections with Vietnamese provinces, which have been nurtured through cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and developmental initiatives. Kratie province, in particular, acknowledged the positive strides made in diplomatic and socio-economic cooperation with Vietnam, highlighting joint infrastructure projects and collaborative efforts to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the wartime in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ commended the pivotal role played by Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and rubber production. He noted that these ventures have significantly contributed to local economic development and have further solidified the bilateral relationship between the two nations. In Stung Treng, officials highlighted the investment opportunities available in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese investors to explore these potential avenues.
Furthermore, Nguyễn Minh Vũ engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community, focusing on legal and livelihood concerns. He encouraged adherence to local laws and underscored the importance of supporting education and sustainable development initiatives. His meetings emphasized the desire to improve the living conditions of the Vietnamese diaspora while ensuring their integration into Cambodian society.
Currently, Vietnam ranks as one of Cambodia’s leading foreign investors, with over 200 projects amounting to a registered capital of approximately $3 billion. This strong investment presence underscores the strategic and economic importance of the relationship between the two countries, highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to fostering growth and development in Cambodia.
