During a recent session with Hà Nội’s leaders, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, emphasized the need for the city to intensify its economic growth efforts while maintaining a focus on sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. He acknowledged the city’s advancements in areas such as institutional reforms, infrastructure, and administrative procedures but highlighted the obstacles it faces, including growth rates that have not met expectations, underutilization of resources, and delays in major urban projects.
Tô Lâm underscored the importance of tapping into dormant resources, speeding up essential infrastructure initiatives, and bolstering support for sectors like business, tourism, and innovation. He also stressed the need for improved public service delivery. Several key areas were pinpointed as priorities, such as alleviating traffic congestion, addressing pollution issues, expanding housing, and investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Hà Nội has set an ambitious target for its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) to grow by 11% in 2026. This goal follows a reported economic growth rate of 8.22% in the first half of the current year, a figure that surpasses the national average.
The city’s leadership is being urged to overcome the challenges it faces by unlocking idle resources and accelerating the pace of ongoing projects. These efforts aim to not only boost economic growth but also ensure that the development remains sustainable and beneficial to the city’s residents.
