The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Lê Minh Hưng, has put forth a proposal for establishing a specialized international search and rescue team. This initiative aims to bolster Vietnam’s involvement in global humanitarian efforts and disaster relief operations. During a recent ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of this endeavor by recognizing Vietnam’s rescue mission to Venezuela, which was conducted in response to the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the country.
In his address, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng commended the 124-member team composed of military and public security personnel for their dedication and expertise. Their mission in Venezuela yielded substantial results, including the recovery of 57 victims and the delivery of 5.6 tonnes of essential relief supplies. Additionally, the team provided medical assistance to over 130 residents and contributed financial aid to the communities impacted by the disaster.
Emphasizing the need for preparedness and excellence, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to enhance Vietnam’s rescue capabilities. This, he suggested, could be achieved through the acquisition of modern equipment, specialized training programs, improved inter-agency coordination, and the strengthening of international partnerships. He also advocated for increased support and recognition for those who participate in overseas humanitarian missions, acknowledging their critical role and commitment.
The Vietnamese rescue delegation’s efforts were honored with Venezuela’s prestigious Hero of Venezuela Medal, acknowledging the team’s substantial contributions to the relief efforts. This accolade not only highlights the effectiveness and compassion of Vietnam’s rescue operations but also underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing humanitarian crises.
