Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to supporting Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), emphasizing the significance of the Five-Point Consensus as the central strategy for fostering peace and stability in the nation. This reaffirmation came during an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, where Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Myanmar’s vital role within ASEAN and underscored Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at national reconciliation, economic revival, and improved governance in Myanmar.
Minister Lê urged ASEAN to adopt more practical and concrete measures, advocating for continuous dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. He emphasized the importance of these actions to better monitor the situation on the ground and to encourage substantial progress. Additionally, Vietnam expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair along with other member countries to assist Myanmar in addressing social issues, combating transnational crime, and reinforcing regional cooperation.
Throughout the meeting, ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating a solution led by Myanmar. This approach is to be pursued through ongoing dialogue and the effective enactment of the Five-Point Consensus. The ministers emphasized the importance of this framework in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region.
