Thailand is enhancing its global aviation links by forming new alliances with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, while also upgrading the systems at its regional airports. These efforts aim to boost connectivity and foster tourism growth within the country.
Vietnam Airlines has introduced a fresh route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, operational since July 2. This service runs four times a week and offers an annual seating capacity of around 39,500. The new route is designed to cater to the increasing travel demand from Vietnam, which saw over 300,000 of its citizens visiting Thailand in the first half of the year alone.
In a similar move to enhance connectivity, flydubai commenced daily flights from Dubai to Bangkok on July 1. The airline plans to further increase the frequency of this service to twice daily starting September 15, thereby strengthening travel ties between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
On a separate note, Thailand is set to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This initiative aims to improve air traffic management, boost operational efficiency, and increase access to secondary cities. The AFIS system is expected to be initially introduced at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans to extend it to additional regional airports in the future.
