Vietnam, Malaysia Enhance Economic Ties and Business Collaboration in Defense Sector

In a bid to bolster regional stability and enhance their bilateral relationship, Vietnam and Malaysia are seeking to expand their defence cooperation. Recent discussions in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, underscored this mutual goal.

During the talks, General Giang commended the ambassador for his contributions to improving the cooperative ties between the two nations. He highlighted the significant progress made in defence relations, pointing to the ongoing military exchanges, policy dialogues, training partnerships, and coordination at international and multilateral venues as evidence of their strengthened ties.

The Vietnamese defence minister emphasized the importance of continuing to implement existing agreements and called for increased engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. To further cement these ties, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and industry representatives to participate in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Hanoi.

Ambassador Tan Yang Thai, reflecting on his tenure, expressed gratitude towards Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support. He voiced optimism that the defence relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia would continue to flourish, contributing positively to peace and prosperity across the region.
