Marketing professor Scott Galloway has issued a stark warning about Tesla’s future, claiming Elon Musk’s political activities have created “one of the greatest brand destructions” in business history. During his appearance on the Pivot podcast, Galloway explained how Musk’s leadership role in the Trump administration has severely damaged Tesla’s market position.

The evidence is compelling. Tesla’s brand reputation has nosedived from 8th to 95th place, while European sales have plummeted across multiple countries. Galloway attributes this decline to Musk’s fundamental misunderstanding of his customer base, noting that the CEO has aligned himself with a political demographic largely uninterested in electric vehicles.

“He’s alienated his core demographic,” Galloway stated, pointing to Musk’s controversial political statements on his platform X, particularly regarding European politics, which have further damaged Tesla’s standing in key markets.

The brand erosion has had immediate financial consequences, with Tesla reporting a 71% drop in profits. This dramatic decline underscores the real-world impact of Musk’s political activities on Tesla’s business performance.

In what appears to be an acknowledgment of the damage, Musk recently announced plans to scale back his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claiming his work on government financial reform is largely complete.
